![]() I wanted to be able to synch all of the devices. I spent $17 getting the apps for Mac, iPhone, iPad. I used the Lite version for 4 months and liked it except for its limited entry restrictions. You will be wasting your money if you purchase this. I am a computer tech and minister as well and have been showing this and demoing this to just about everyone I know. I have already sold 6 people on OpusDomini for you. I have tired many and paid much more then the current price and OpusDomini kicks all of their butts. I know iCloud is coming very soon but OpusDomini is awesome and well worth it and can't beat the price. But I know projects has been requested and I hope contacts will be also. The only reason this does not get a 5 is that contacts and projects are not in this. I wanted an app that did tasks, appointments, projects and contacts in one app. I have been a Daytimer/Franklin Covey user for years. I have been waiting for OpusDomini since iPad came out. But wish they would work like they used to. I use the task and planning and notes in my iPad only. My work around is to sync with iPhone and iPad calendars. I still use it but like they have said it no longer syncs. It is now so outdated that Apple is telling me it will slow my device down because it's so old. Save your money, you'll just regret spending it. Unfortunately I have to recommend you stay away from OpusDomini. It's just a shame because the parts are all there, I just don't think this company has the programming chops to make it work. If you can't even put the effort to make token improvements, you should just pull OpusDomini. Worst of all is that it hasn't been updated in over a year. It's look is very much dated and a prime illustration of bad skueomorphism. When I get it to work I'm not always sure how I did it. But there have been bugs from the get go that have yet to be squashed. ![]() The syncing was always an issue, but not a major one. That's fine for a free app or maybe even a 99 cent one, but for the money I paid I definitely feel ripped off. Unfortunately the company seems unwilling or unable to put the time into making OpusDomini work. In theory, this is the perfect embodiment of the Covey organizational system. I bought the iPhone, iPad, and Mac versions. Overall I think OpusDomini has kept me better organized then Franklin ever did plus I am glad to be happy with something digital rather then stuck on paper. ![]() There are a few issues with Opus that I wish were better: the compass feature and goal planning leave much to be desired, and for some reason I am unable to import or even manually add contacts, but this is easy to compensate for with standard iPad and iPhone apps. Ironically Franklin has come to disappoint me in recent years with their limited selection compared to 10 years ago and now that I am hooked on Opus there is no way I would go back to a Franklin. I have been proven wrong and have continued to use OpusDomini for almost an entire year - I have never before actually relied and continually used an online planner before, I have always return it to pen and paper and Franklin. I initially downloaded the free version, was pleasantly surprised, and after a couple weeks of research and continued use I went for it and bought the full version, fully expecting to regret it and consider it a waste of money. I am also a long time Franklin addict, and had never been even remotely satisfied with any planner app. ![]() Windows 2000, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, Windows 11 ĪctiveMovie Control, CD Player, DVD Player, Microsoft Movies ![]() As the gravity of this situation increases and the attention on Asians as a target for this virus ebbs, replaced by a general paranoia of one another, the disappointment and disillusionment remain. It may be true that these feelings and attitudes toward Asian-Americans were always there, hidden underneath the surface, but fear has brought them to a head in these perilous times. Fear that a stranger will infect us, that others will take all the supplies we need to survive, and that looking out for someone else will cause us to suffer. It becomes one more pebble in a shoe full of rocks, another sign and symptom contributing to a plaguing imposter syndrome.Īpart from the threat of illness and death, fear is perhaps the most virulent part of COVID-19. But, when patients refuse to be seen by anyone “Asian-looking” and when care and concern is met with bigotry and hate, it is an understatement to say that it hurts. Every moment in the hospital, we put ourselves and the people we love at greater risk of contracting the virus, because this profession is more than work, it is a calling. As physicians and resident physicians, we took an oath to help the sick and suffering, even those who are distrustful or prejudiced against us. These sentiments and experiences have not been lost on the Asian doctor. While these accounts have ranged from derogatory comments (“Get your coronavirus out of my country!”) to battery and assault, less talked about are the subtle moments - the stare of a stranger on the street, the fear of coughing or sneezing in an elevator, and the unshakable, unrelenting feeling that you’re different, that you don’t belong. Over the last few months, there have been countless stories of racism and xenophobia towards individuals of Asian descent. Unfortunately, for Asians, this social sterility has left in its wake a sense of isolation and blame. It is undeniable that the social distancing movement is critical in quelling the exponential spread of this virus. Sterile technique has leaked into the public domain, marked not only by how expensive Purell has become or how frequently we are reminded to wash our hands, but also by the ways we have come to treat one another. However, with the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, we now find ourselves unable to scrub out at the end of the case. We don gown and gloves and communicate behind mask and shield, all to keep ourselves and our patients safe. We’ve made a home of the aseptic operating room, where “don’t touch your face” is a lesson learned on day one. ― Gabriel García Márquez, Love in the Time of CholeraĪs surgeons, we pride ourselves on our sterility. Prominent dissimilarities between clinical phenotypes are predominantly driven by inflammation and dead space ventilation.“It was a meditation on life, love, old age, death: ideas that had often fluttered around her head like nocturnal birds but dissolved into a trickle of feathers when she tried to catch hold of them." This may have important implications for prognostic or predictive enrichment. Patients typically do not remain in the same cluster throughout intensive care treatment. The clinical phenotype half-life was between 5 and 6 days for the mild and severe phenotypes, and about 3 days for the medium severe phenotype. ![]() During the 21-day period, only 8.2% and 4.6% of patients in the initial mild and severe clusters remained assigned to the same phenotype respectively. Heterogeneity between phenotypes appears to be driven by inflammation and dead space ventilation. After day 4, the severe phenotype split into an intermediate and a severe phenotype for 11 consecutive days. On admission, both a mild and a severe clinical phenotype were found. Forty-one parameters were chosen for cluster analysis. The final patient cohort consisted of 2438 COVID-19 patients with a ICU mortality outcome. Both evolution of the clinical phenotypes over time and patient allocation to these clusters over time were tracked. Clinical phenotypes in each dataset were identified by performing cluster analyses. Twenty-one datasets were created that each covered 24 h of ICU data for each day of ICU treatment. ![]() Parameters including demographics, clinical observations, medications, laboratory values, vital signs, and data from life support devices were selected. We used granular data from 3202 adult COVID patients in the Dutch Data Warehouse that were admitted to one of 25 Dutch ICUs between February 2020 and March 2021. By including the dimension of time, we aim to gain further insights into the heterogeneity of COVID-19. However, previous attempts did not take into account temporal dynamics with high granularity. Identification of clinical phenotypes in critically ill COVID-19 patients could improve understanding of the disease heterogeneity and enable prognostic and predictive enrichment. ![]() 100 percent compatible with all of your applications. In 1420 in France, King Louis XI began to issue certificates, authorizing the free circulation of merchandise with the notion finally being extended, in a limited manner, to the general French public in 1464. However, the origins of the word are disputed to this day. This British Act of Parliament in 1414 may, therefore, be considered the first written mention of the ‘passport’ in modern history. As Martin Lloyd describes, these sorts of “gentleman’s agreements” were mainly intended to allow foreign travelers, previously considered enemies, “passage in and out of the kingdom for the purpose of negotiations”. Citizens were sometimes also provided with this document however, this was normally done at a fee. In Continental Europe, it was not until King Henry V’s reign in Britain that what became known as “safe-conduct documents” started being issued, mainly to foreigners traveling inland for trade purposes. The first Japanese passport, issued in 1866 This is quite close to the idea of a ‘modern’ passport as it effectively exemplifies an official travel document, provided by the state to its citizens. In effect, anyone without such a document could not travel between different regions, and citizens would be required to present their bara’a at different checkpoints along their travels. The Medieval Islamic Caliphate would issue a bara’a to tax-paying citizens, as a form of receipt for and proof of taxes paid. ![]() ![]() The Muslim world also had its own take on the historical precursor to the modern-day passport. Anyone wishing to move across borders would be required to present this document at different control points. This would indicate the individual’s age, height, and other bodily features, to serve as identifiers. The Chinese Han Dynasty, as early back as 206BC also began controlling movement across imperial territories with a document. This is considered the first recorded mention of the concept of the passport. To do this, he was given letters from the King, granting safe passage to the Kingdom of Judah. As far back as 445BC, in the Book of Nehemiah in the Old Testament of the Bible, Nehemiah was tasked with helping to rebuild Jerusalem. What began as a document indicating a leader’s consent to people entering his territory continued to evolve to reflect changing societal needs and modi operandi. In 1879, he was knighted for his contributions to the scientific world, and that year, he was also granted Fellowship in the Royal Society. Over the course of his lifetime, Bessemer earned a total of 110 patents. However, it was too unstable to steer and crashed into a pier on its maiden voyage in 1875. Instead he forged ahead and made the vessel, dubbed the Bessemer Saloon Ship, a reality. He did not take the advice of critics who said it would never work. In theory, this would keep the cabin horizontal at all times. In 1869, he began working on a seasickness-proof sailing ship, based on an idea he had to mount the ship’s interior cabin on top of a gyroscope. During his years as an inventor, Bessemer also created a method for embossing velvet, a hydraulic machine for extracting juice from sugar cane, steam-driven fans for ventilating mines, and a furnace designed especially for making sheet glass. In 1860, Bessemer patented the tilting convertor, which produced steel more efficiently than the earlier fixed furnace. It was essential to the development of skyscrapers, to the railroad and construction business, and to the defense industry. ![]() Even now, modern steel is made using technology based on Bessemer's process. As a result, he became a very wealthy man. This inspired a flood of applications to license the technology. to manufacture steel and was able to undersell nearly all competitors. Shortly after introducing the Bessemer Converter, Bessemer established Henry Bessemer & Co. In 1856, Bessemer patented his refinery process and created huge furnaces that could handle it. It should be noted that an American named William Kelly had held a patent for "a system of air blowing the carbon out of pig iron," but bankruptcy forced him to sell his patent to Bessemer. Repeating the decarbonization process over and over would eventually refine the substance into very strong steel. This was because the air removed some of the carbon in the material. He found that the line along which the air blew produced a type of material that had a higher melting point than the rest of the substance. Its evolution began with Bessemer’s attempt to blow air in through a vat of molten iron. ![]() The Bessemer Converter could make 30 tons of high-grade steel in half an hour. This would set him on a path to perhaps the greatest accomplishment of his life: the Bessemer Converter. When Napoleon himself expressed interest during a dinner with Bessemer in Paris, he was encouraged, but first he needed to come up with a way to mass produce structural steel that he could use to create sturdier gun barrels to support these heavy shells. Bessemer had presented his shell idea to the War Department, but they had been disinterested. His shells were heavier than the typically used cannon balls and would be cut with spiral grooves that would give them spin and keep them on target. ![]() In 1854, while the Crimean War was under way, Bessemer created a new type of artillery shell. He and his brothers-in-law ran it and were extremely successful. He invented machines to mix the substance automatically and set up a factory that he kept top-secret so his process would not be discovered. Bessemer was not compensated for these ideas.īessemer, who was mostly self-educated, made his first fortune with an idea for using brass as a paint additive to produce a bronze-colored powder that could be used for décor in place of gold. ![]() Implementing this practice saved the Stamp Service a great deal of money. Then he realized a better idea was just to print new dates on stamps rather than use new ones. At age 17, he came up with the idea of creating embossed stamps to use on title deeds. The first to develop a process for mass-producing steel inexpensively, this son of an engineer was a prolific and diverse inventor throughout his life. “Man of Steel” Henry Bessemer was born on Januin Charlton, Hertfordshire, England. 2023-24 InvenTeam Grants Application Open!.Student Fellows Research Program: Recruitment Open!.Celebrating Garey High School InvenTeam's Patent Award!.Bridge to Invention and Inclusive Innovation Program. ![]() This keyboard method works for two or more monitors, and once a window reaches the end of the last monitor in the chain while moving it, the window will wrap around and appear on the first one.
